Community still coming to grips after loss of more manageable “MESS” acronym
The community of Kitimat is still struggling to cope after a now years-old decision to add a middle school to Mount Elizabeth, forcing the change of the school’s acronym from MESS to MEMSS.
“Now it just sounds like I have peanut butter stuck in my mouth,” says area resident Tim Griebe. “MEMSS? Just what is that? I don’t think I’ll ever get passed this.”
His opinion is just one of many of community members still mourning the loss of the four letter acronym.
Candlelight vigils continue to be organized as just one of the many coping mechanisms for the community.
The silver lining to the name change though is that alumnus who have original MESS-branded merchandise are now in possession of valuable rarities. That said, police continue to crack-down on black market MESS products which continue to be sold in clandestine back-alley meetings in Kitimat.
