New fireworks bylaw limits use entirely to your living room from 7 to 10 pm

Reacting to concerns from local residents, Kitimat Council has acted through bylaw to ensure fireworks in the community can only be set off in one’s living room between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m.

“This is a pivotal moment in public safety in Kitimat,” said the mayor following the vote. “We believe this will ensure people can enjoy their fireworks while also protecting those concerned with how they had been used in the past.”

The Kitimat Fire Chief, sharing safety tips in light of the new bylaw, says he recommends having a hose or water bucket nearby for any flare-ups, and keeping fireworks away from your pets or children’s faces.

He recommends people not set them off over their sinks as that would require using a room that’s not the living room.
